Vicente Fox meets PRI leader Alejandro Moreno to discuss opposition alliance

Former President Vicente Fox met with PRI leader Alejandro ‘Alito’ Moreno at the party's national headquarters to discuss the political landscape and the necessity of building an opposition front ahead of the 2027 elections. Fox, accompanied by members of the Alma de México civil organization, emphasized the need for democratic institutions and a unified alternative to the ruling Morena party.

President Claudia Sheinbaum criticized the meeting during a national tour in Colima, characterizing the encounter as an attempt to return to a past defined by corruption and privileges. Sheinbaum also used the platform to defend her constitutional reform proposal that would prohibit presidential candidates from holding dual nationality.

During the same tour in Colima, Sheinbaum's speech was interrupted by protesters. While the President suggested the demonstrators were opposition infiltrators, local environmental activists and fishing communities denied these claims, stating their protests were specifically directed against the planned expansion of the Manzanillo port and its impact on local mangroves and lagoons.
