Alejandro Moreno faces potential impeachment and corruption probes

Alejandro ‘Alito’ Moreno Peña, the national leader of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) and former governor of Campeche, faces potential legal challenges and a request to strip him of his parliamentary immunity. The Campeche Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office has submitted a request for impeachment related to five investigations involving alleged embezzlement and misuse of authority.

The legal pressure coincides with Moreno’s frequent trips to Washington, D.C., where he has accused the ruling Morena party of authoritarianism and censorship. While Moreno characterizes these legal moves as political persecution, the ruling party holds the legislative strength to advance the impeachment process. If stripped of his immunity as a national list senator, Moreno could face criminal proceedings regarding his tenure in Campeche.
