Alejandro Moreno meets with Ernesto Ruffo Appel to discuss opposition coalition
Alejandro ‘Alito’ Moreno, leader of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), met with former Baja California Governor Ernesto Ruffo Appel at his home in Ensenada on October 25. Ruffo Appel is currently under house arrest while facing charges related to fuel smuggling and organized crime.
The meeting included PAN federal deputy and former Guanajuato Governor Juan Carlos Romero Hicks, as well as José Luis Salas. Former President Vicente Fox Quesada joined the discussion via video call. The participants discussed the current national situation and the potential for forming a broad opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.
Following the meeting, a video circulated online showing a verbal confrontation between Moreno and a citizen outside the residence. The individual accused Moreno of being a ‘thief’ and a ‘disgrace,’ while Moreno responded by suggesting the man was sent by the Morena party. Moreno’s aides, including Jorge Meade Ocaranza, intervened during the exchange, which remained verbal and did not result in a formal complaint.
