Alejandro Ordóñez appointed as Colombia's ambassador to the OAS

President Abelardo de la Espriella has officially appointed former Inspector General Alejandro Ordóñez as Colombia’s ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS). The appointment was formalized through Decree 1365 on September 4.

Ordóñez previously held this same position between 2018 and 2022 during the administration of Iván Duque. His return to the diplomatic role follows a period away from public life and marks a consolidation of conservative figures within the current executive branch.

Ordóñez is a prominent figure known for his conservative and religious stances. His career includes serving as the President of the Council of State and as Inspector General, where he made several high-profile decisions, including the 2013 removal of Gustavo Petro from his position as Mayor of Bogotá.
