Alejandro Ríos Galindo wins bronze in 800m at World U20 Championships

Spanish middle-distance runner Alejandro Ríos Galindo won the bronze medal in the 800 meters at the World Athletics U20 Championships held in Oregon, USA. Ríos completed the race with a time of 1:46.25, marking the third-fastest time in Spanish U20 history.

This achievement ends a 26-year drought for Spain in this specific event, the last podium finish being by Antonio Manuel Reina at the 2000 World Championships in Santiago, Chile. The gold medal was won by Imad Bouchajda of Morocco (1:44.64), followed by Australia's Daniel Williams (1:45.36).

Ríos described the race as "frenetic," noting that a strategic decision to conserve strength for the final 200 meters allowed him to overtake Slovenia's Benjamin Lakoseljac to secure third place. Another Spanish athlete, Alejandro Muñoz, finished seventh in the final.
