Alejandro Rosas presents new book on Tenochtitlán

Mexican author and historian Alejandro Rosas presented his latest book, “Érase una vez Tenochtitlán: Entre dioses y Tlatoanis,” at the Librería BUAP within the Complejo Cultural Universitario (CCU).

Published by Grupo Planeta, the work chronicles the transformation of the Mexica city from a small settlement in Lake Texcoco to the dominant capital of Mesoamerica. The book is divided into three sections: the Mexica worldview and the creation of the Fifth Sun, the pilgrimage from Aztlán to the Valley of Mexico, and the political power and military dominance of the Tlatoanis.

Rosas noted that the inspiration for the book stemmed from an invitation by archaeologists to witness the discovery of the Huei Tzompantli, a ritual structure located behind the Templo Mayor in Mexico City’s historic center. The text is the result of years of research involving codices, specialized articles, and indigenous chronicles.
