Alejandro Sánchez deported from U.S. to Peru

Alejandro Sánchez, a financier linked to former Peruvian President Pedro Castillo, has arrived in Lima following his deportation from the United States. Sánchez was detained in Texas in September 2023 while attempting to cross the border from Mexico.

He is a central figure in the ‘Gabinete en la Sombra’ (Shadow Cabinet) investigation. Authorities are investigating him for alleged involvement in a criminal organization, aggravated collusion, and influence peddling. Sánchez is also identified as the alleged owner of the Sarratea residence, which served as a workspace for Castillo’s advisors. He currently faces a 30-month preventive detention order.
