Aleks Syntek announces departure from Mexico amid concert controversy

Mexican singer Aleks Syntek is facing significant controversy following a performance on September 15 in the Benito Juárez borough of Mexico City. During the event, Syntek criticized reggaeton and urban music, leading to boos from the audience when he refused to play songs by other artists like Juan Gabriel and Marco Antonio Solís.

Syntek later addressed the backlash through social media, claiming his behavior was a reaction to individuals throwing food at attendees. In a subsequent live stream, he described himself as being “mentally unbalanced” and “crazy,” sarcastically comparing himself to historical and religious figures such as Frida Kahlo, Salvador Dalí, and Jesus Christ. He also announced plans to temporarily leave Mexico to seek “mental and spiritual salvation” amid the intense social media scrutiny.

The incident has drawn varied reactions: reggaeton artist Dani Flow expressed concern for Syntek’s well-being, while journalist Paola Rojas demanded respect after Syntek made comments involving her personal life. Additionally, Syntek faces separate allegations from a young woman regarding uncomfortable private messages sent in the past.
