Aleks Syntek calls for confidence in Mexican film music at Guanajuato Festival
Aleks Syntek delivered a masterclass titled “Mi vida entre la música y la pantalla grande” during the 29th edition of the Festival Internacional de Cine Guanajuato (GIFF) in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. He reflected on his 35‑year career, performed excerpts from his best‑known songs, and gave a vinyl copy of his recent concert to festival director Sarah Hoch.
Syntek urged greater trust in Mexican talent, criticizing the tendency to hire foreign composers and the influence of viral culture and AI on artistic work. He highlighted his experience scoring the film “Sexo, pudor y lágrimas,” noting the manual synchronization required under limited budgets, and emphasized that Mexican composers deserve more recognition and opportunities.
