Aleks Syntek sees streaming surge and mourns death of Peter Byrne
Mexican singer Aleks Syntek has experienced a significant surge in digital engagement following recent controversies. Data from Chartmetric and Spotify indicates his daily audience on Spotify increased by 630% in the weeks following a September 15 performance in Mexico City that drew social media criticism.
Among the tracks seeing increased listenership is “Duele el Amor,” a collaboration with Spanish singer Ana Torroja, which reached over 950,000 daily streams on Spotify Mexico on September 22. Other songs experiencing growth include “Corazones Invencibles,” “Sexo, Pudor y Lágrimas,” “Intocable,” and “Por Volverte a Ver.”
Separately, Syntek expressed public grief over the death of his friend and collaborator, Peter Byrne. Byrne, the 74-year-old vocalist of the British duo Naked Eyes, passed away in Los Angeles after a short illness. Syntek shared memories of their professional history, including recording sessions in Los Angeles, while mourning the loss of the musician.
