Aleksandar Dimitrov celebrates 50th birthday

Aleksandar Dimitrov, the head coach of the Bulgarian men's national football team, is celebrating his 50th birthday. Born in Sofia on September 12, 1976, Dimitrov began his football career as a youth player at CSKA Sofia.

His professional playing career included stints at Yantra, Belasitsa, Akademik Sofia, and Persipura in Indonesia. He transitioned into coaching as an assistant to Ivan Kolev at Persipura and later worked with the Indonesian national team. Upon returning to Bulgaria, he coached several domestic clubs, including Botev Plovdiv, Beroe, Lokomotiv Gorna Oryahovitsa, and Vitosha Bistritsa.

Dimitrov has a significant history with Bulgarian youth national teams, having led the U19 squad to the European Championship finals in 2014 and the U17 squad to the finals in 2015. He served as the youth national team coach from December 2018 until September 2025, before taking charge of the senior national team. Under his leadership, the team won the FIFA Series in Indonesia in March. The Bulgarian Football Union issued a statement congratulating him on his jubilee.
