Aleksandar Vučić announces seventh planned rally in Novi Sad

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has announced plans for a large-scale political rally in Novi Sad, marking the seventh time he has proposed such an event in the city over the past eighteen months.

According to reporting by Istinomer, Vučić suggested the event could take place in early September. The president has frequently mentioned holding rallies in locations where he claims protesters, hooligans, and blockaders have prevented his access. Previous announcements for rallies in Vojvodina, Kragujevac, and Novi Sad have seen varying outcomes, including one event being moved to Sremska Mitrovica.

The repeated announcements come in the context of Novi Sad's recent history, specifically following the railway station tragedy on November 1, 2024, which triggered months of student and civic protests. Vučić has characterized the city's residents as having endured ‘terror’ and stated that Novi Sad ‘deserved’ this upcoming gathering.
