Aleksandar Vučić has launched his campaign for the upcoming Serbian parliamentary elections, scheduled for October 25, with a highly unconventional promotional video. In the clip, Vučić portrays a waiter in a restaurant, taking orders from a family that requests political and economic promises instead of food. These requests include the construction of highways, higher wages and pensions, new maternity hospitals, free education, the preservation of Kosovo, and a continued policy of not imposing sanctions on Russia. The video also addresses foreign policy, with Vučić responding to a request for NATO membership by stating, “We do not have NATO, but we have peace and stability.”

The campaign follows a period of significant political unrest, including student-led protests triggered by a fatal railway station tragedy in Novi Sad in November 2024. Vučić, who resigned from the presidency on September 27 to run for prime minister, faces competition from the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) and student-led electoral lists.

In a separate development, the Serbian Ministry of Justice has stated it will not participate in implementing the pardons of 49 individuals recently granted amnesty by Vučić. The Ministry noted it was unaware of the specific identities of all those pardoned and indicated that the decisions should be handled by the relevant courts and prosecutor's offices. Legal experts have questioned the legality of the pardon process, suggesting it may have bypassed mandatory steps required by law.
