Within 48 hours Čeferin secured backing from football federations in Asia, North and Central America and the Caribbean, marking the most coordinated challenge to Infantino’s agenda.

The Slovenian lawyer, who previously halted Infantino’s 2017 two‑year World Cup plan and helped collapse the 2021 European Super League proposal, is now threatening a boycott of the upcoming World Cup. UEFA is positioning the Euro 2028 tournament in England as a European alternative and is urging a re‑evaluation of FIFA’s commercial strategies.

Amid growing calls for Infantino’s resignation, senior UEFA figures are reportedly supporting PSG club president Nasser Al‑Khelaifi of Qatar as a preferred candidate to succeed Infantino should he step down.
