Aleksander Sekulic appointed as FC Barcelona basketball head coach

Aleksander Sekulic, a 48‑year‑old Slovenian, has been named the new head coach of FC Barcelona’s basketball team, signing a contract that runs until 30 June 2028. He replaces Xavi Pascual, who is moving to coach in Dubai. Sekulic becomes the first Slovenian to lead the Barça basketball side.

Before joining Barcelona, Sekulic coached Dubai Basketball, guiding the Emirati club to the Adriatic League title and overseeing a brief appearance in the EuroLeague. He has been Slovenia’s national team coach since 2020, leading the squad to a fourth‑place finish at the Tokyo Olympics and to sixth and seventh places in recent EuroBasket tournaments. The club is also finalising several player signings as part of its new project under Sekulic’s direction.
