Aleksandr Sharovski, prominent Azerbaijani theater director, passes away
Aleksandr Yakovlevich Sharovski, a prominent Azerbaijani theater director, actor, and People's Artist, has passed away at the age of 79. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev issued an obituary noting the significant loss to the nation's cultural community.
Sharovski served as the chief director of the Azerbaijan State Academic Russian Drama Theatre since 1993. Throughout his career, he directed more than 50 productions and portrayed over 50 characters on stage. His work was recognized both domestically and internationally, contributing to the promotion of Azerbaijani culture.
In addition to his theatrical achievements, Sharovski was a leader of the European Jewish community in Baku and a member of the Advisory Board of the Baku International Multiculturalism Center. He was a recipient of the ‘Glory’ and ‘Honor’ orders.
A farewell ceremony is scheduled for September 9 at 14:30 at the Azerbaijan State Academic Russian Drama Theatre. He will be buried in the Second Honorary Alley.
