Aleksej Pokuševski obtains Greek passport and discusses career moves
Basketball player Aleksej Pokuševski has officially obtained a Greek passport, a move he clarifies is based on personal ties rather than professional basketball interests. Having lived in Greece from ages 13 to 18, Pokuševski maintains a home there and has a Greek fiancée. He stated that the naturalization is a “logical evolution” due to his deep connection to the country.
Regarding his career, Pokuševski confirmed he had serious discussions with several major Greek clubs during the summer. However, he ultimately chose to join Lokomotiv Kuban, prioritizing a significant playing role and freedom over the prestige or financial scale of larger clubs. He expressed dissatisfaction with his previous tenure at Partizan, noting he sought an environment where he would be more utilized.
Despite the new citizenship, Pokuševski emphasized that his decision has nothing to do with basketball or national team eligibility. He also touched upon his future ambitions, mentioning that a return to the NBA remains a realistic possibility given his age and experience.
