Aleniglipron tablet shows significant weight loss in Phase II study
A Phase II clinical study has demonstrated that the active ingredient Aleniglipron, administered in tablet form, shows significant potential for weight reduction in adults with obesity or overweight.
In the study involving 230 adults with an average BMI of 39.5 kg/m², participants received daily doses of 45, 90, or 120 milligrams. After 36 weeks, researchers from UT Southwestern Medical Center, Yale School of Medicine, and Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine reported weight losses of 8.2%, 9.8%, or 11.3% compared to a placebo group, depending on the dosage.
As an oral medication, Aleniglipron offers logistical advantages over injectable GLP-1 receptor agonists like Ozempic and Wegovy, specifically regarding ease of storage and transport. Researchers noted that weight loss had not yet reached a plateau at the 36-week mark, suggesting continued efficacy.
