Iberian tourism sectors report summer growth across Spain and Portugal
Tourism sectors across the Iberian Peninsula reported significant growth and varying trends during the summer months. In Spain, Extremadura achieved its best August on record with a 10.8% increase in travelers, leading national growth. Other regions showed diverse results: Almería saw a 31% surge in apartment travelers in August, while Asturias surpassed five million overnight stays for the first eight months of the year, bolstered by interest in a solar eclipse. In the sun and beach segment, Catalonia led in reservation volume, while the Balearic Islands recorded the highest average daily rate (ADR) at 262 euros.
In Portugal, the Alentejo region saw a 2.6% increase in overnight stays in August, with total revenues rising by over 10%. The Centro region also reported growth, with overnight stays increasing by 1.1% and total revenues rising by 3.4% in August, supported largely by domestic demand and Spanish visitors.
