Alentejo launches €23.4 million EU‑funded projects for water management and high‑speed internet

The Alentejo 2030 Regional Programme has opened a €1 million competition to fund water‑management projects that improve monitoring, study and efficient use of the region’s scarce water resources. Eligible public entities can receive up to 85 % of eligible costs from the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER), with the first application deadline on 31 July.

In a related step, the programme has also allocated €22.4 million, co‑financed by FEDER, to contract the construction, operation and maintenance of very‑high‑capacity broadband networks across interior and low‑density areas of Alentejo. Ministers and regional officials attended the signing ceremony, emphasizing the aim to close the digital divide, attract residents and boost economic competitiveness.

Both initiatives are part of the EU‑backed Alentejo 2030 plan to strengthen climate resilience, territorial cohesion and digital transition in the Portuguese region.
