Alentejo Named Finalist for Sustainable Food Destination at Olive Travel & Taste Awards

The Alentejo region in Portugal has been selected as one of four finalists in the “Sustainable Food Destination of the Year” category of the inaugural Olive Travel & Taste Awards. The awards, organised by the British brand Olive, celebrate destinations, accommodations and experiences that combine gastronomy, travel and wellbeing.

José Manuel Santos, president of the Regional Tourism Promotion Agency of Alentejo, said the nomination is “an international recognition of a territory where sustainability is not just a trend but a way of living, producing and receiving.” He added that being a finalist reinforces the region’s ambition to promote tourism that generates local value, respects resources and preserves the authenticity that distinguishes Alentejo.

The finalists will be judged by Olive editors and specialists from gastronomy, travel, hospitality and content creation, with winners to be announced in September 2026. The recognition highlights Alentejo’s culinary heritage – from bread and olive oil to wines, cheeses, aromatic herbs and montado products – and its deep connection to the land and seasonal cycles.
