Alentejo region featured in new Portuguese animation series

A new Portuguese animation miniseries titled ‘Estórias Submersas do Alentejo’ is currently in production, chronicling the Alentejo region from prehistory to the present day. The project is intended for Évora, which will serve as the European Capital of Culture in 2027.

Produced by Praça Filmes and Estórias em Movimento, the series features a collaborative effort involving over twenty artists and authors, including directors, writers, musicians, choreographers, and chefs. The production also incorporates expertise from biologists, archaeologists, and historians, alongside input from the local population.

The series will consist of nine seven-minute episodes, each functioning as an autonomous short film. These stories are organized into three thematic axes: ‘O Calmeiro’ (time and contemplation), ‘O Montado’ (the relationship with nature), and ‘O Rancho’ (the memory of work, celebration, and resistance).
