Alentejo regional authorities launch archaeological heritage protection plan
The Alentejo Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR) is conducting a series of awareness and clarification sessions across Beja, Grândola, Portalegre, and Évora. These sessions are part of the Regional Plan for the Safeguarding of Archaeological Heritage in Alentejo.
The initiative aims to alert municipal technicians, agricultural associations, and rural development professionals to the risks facing archaeological sites. Vice-president Henrique Sim-Sim emphasized the need for coordinated action between municipalities and public entities to prevent the destruction of historical remains, particularly during large-scale agricultural or hydraulic operations.
In related cultural news, the heritage of Alcácer do Sal was recently featured in an international promotional action for the Portugal Legends Championship golf tournament. Additionally, the municipality of Sines is conducting an inventory of the movable heritage of the Vasco da Gama Atlético Clube, a local sports organization founded in 1966.
