Alentejo wine region forecasts 20% harvest increase for 2026
The Regional Viticultural Commission of Alentejo (CVRA) projects a 2026 harvest of 108 million litres, about 20% higher than the 87 million litres recorded in 2025. The boost is attributed to favorable climate conditions, including adequate winter precipitation and a cold winter, and the harvest is slated to begin in early August. The Alentejo region accounts for roughly 40% of Portugal's certified wine sales, underscoring the economic importance of the forecast.
In Spain’s Penedès area, the sparkling‑wine growers’ association Corpinnat began its 2026 harvest on 29 July, the earliest start since the group’s inception. Warmer-than‑average temperatures and a lack of recent rain accelerated grape ripening, prompting an early start despite an expected reduction in total volume. Quality is expected to remain high, with a guaranteed minimum price of €0.943 per kilogram of organically‑grown grapes and a reduced maximum pressing yield of 64.4% to preserve wine standards.
