Oranya Market fire destroys approximately 300 shops in Ibadan
A massive fire destroyed approximately 300 shops at the Oranya Market in the Ibadan North East Local Government Area of Oyo State. The blaze, which reportedly began around midnight following an explosion, spread rapidly through sections of the market.
Traders specializing in gold, furniture, and second-hand clothing were among those most heavily impacted. While the exact number of destroyed shops and the total value of lost goods are still being determined through post-fire investigations, eyewitnesses described the destruction as devastating.
Oyo State Acting Governor Bayo Lawal visited the site to assess the damage and expressed sympathy to the affected traders, promising government intervention to assist those who lost their livelihoods. Meanwhile, political figures have called for more comprehensive safety strategies to prevent the recurrence of such incidents, noting a pattern of market fires in the region.
