Alessandria extends disability transport service to 2028
The city of Alessandria has approved the renewal of its transport service for people with disabilities through June 15, 2028. The municipal council unanimously approved the extension, which includes the Italian Red Cross as a new partner alongside Auser Volontariato Alessandria, Aido Intercomunale Valenza “E. Deambrogi”, and Anteas Alessandria.
In a significant expansion of the service, the agreement now includes individuals with non-motor disabilities, such as cognitive and sensory impairments, moving beyond the previous experimental phase. The service operates Monday through Friday, from 7:00 to 18:30, to assist users in reaching schools, workplaces, and day centers. Vehicles used by wheelchair users are equipped with ramps and anchoring systems, and an escort is required to accompany the driver during trips.
The program utilizes a model involving third-sector organizations rather than a single external contractor. These associations receive reimbursements for actual expenses, including fuel, maintenance, and insurance, up to an annual cap of 250,000 euros.
