Alessandria Hospital research receives national award and funding

Dr. Alessia Francese of the DAIRI research laboratories at the Alessandria University Hospital (IRCCS) has been awarded the Danone ADI Prize. The recognition, presented during the XXVII National ADI Congress in Matera, honors a pilot study titled “Gut Microbiota Profiling by 16S rRNA Sequencing in Children with Mild or Intermittent Asthma: A Pilot Study in Alessandria, Italy”. The research explores the relationship between the gut microbiota, childhood asthma, and diet, noting a favorable association between the Mediterranean diet and microbiota composition.

In a separate development, the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio has approved an 80,000 euro contribution to support scientific research and the development of the new IRCCS in Alessandria. These funds are designated for the Department of Integrated Research and Innovation (DAIRI) to enhance competitive project design, professional qualification, and the promotion of research results. The investment aims to strengthen the integration between medical research and the economic and cultural growth of the region, particularly in cardiology and pneumology.
