Alessandro Baricco's 'Una Traviata da cortile' opens Umbria Green Festival

Alessandro Baricco premieres his immersive production “Una Traviata da cortile” at the Umbria Green Festival on 5 August. Staged in the courtyard of the Castello di Titignano near Orvieto, the performance eliminates the traditional stage‑audience divide, inviting spectators to join the singers and musicians. Baricco describes the work as a popular, festive reinterpretation of Verdi’s opera, featuring a band with accordion, bandoneón and mandolin instead of a full orchestra. The cast includes Floriana Cicio as Violetta, Andrea Tanzillo as Alfredo and Franco Vassallo as Germont, supported by musicians from the Teatro alla Scala.

Other Italian festivals announced their 2024/25 programs. The Ravello Festival will debut a new itinerant “Traviata” on Lake Orta, while the Virtuoso&Belcanto Festival runs from 21 July to 2 August in Tuscany with more than forty concerts exploring music and peace. Additionally, the Teatro San Carlo in Naples unveiled its 2026/27 season, featuring eleven operas, six ballets, and numerous concerts beginning with a production of “Luisa Miller” on 2 December.
