Alessandro Circati transfers from Parma to Benfica

Australian defender Alessandro Circati has completed a transfer from Italian club Parma to Portuguese side SL Benfica. The 22-year-old Socceroo has reportedly signed a five-year contract that runs through 2031.

Reports indicate the transfer fee is approximately €20 million (roughly $33 million). Circati, who made 96 appearances for Parma, described the move as ‘a huge honour’ and ‘a privilege,’ expressing excitement to play at the Estadio da Luz.

Circati’s father and co-agent, Gianfranco Circati, noted that Benfica’s persistent interest and the opportunity to work within the club’s project were decisive factors. The defender, who featured in all four of Australia’s recent World Cup matches, is expected to provide versatility to Benfica’s defense, capable of playing in both back-four and back-three formations.
