Alessandro Romano attracts Italy interest after Serie A debut goal

Cagliari midfielder Alessandro Romano has drawn attention from the Italian national team following a decisive goal in a Serie A match against Parma. Romano, who holds dual Italian and Swiss citizenship, scored the only goal of the game to secure a 1-0 away victory for Cagliari.

Italy coach Roberto Mancini was reportedly in attendance at the Stadio Ennio Tardini to watch the performance. While Romano has represented Switzerland at the U20 level, FIGC President Giovanni Malagò stated that the federation is actively working to engage players with open international options, noting, “These profiles we must absolutely convince to stay with Italy.”

Romano has confirmed he held discussions with FIGC representatives, though he indicated that a final decision regarding his senior international allegiance is not currently a priority.
