Alessandro Volta's birthplace walls restored via private initiative

Medieval walls surrounding the birthplace of scientist Alessandro Volta have been cleaned and restored through a private initiative. The project was undertaken by former councilor Alessandra Bonduri and her husband Stefano Croci in preparation for the bicentenary of Volta's death in 2027.

The restoration was prompted by the necessary removal of a diseased pine tree that posed a safety risk. In collaboration with a specialized firm, the intervention involved removing weeds and invasive plants from between the stones, restoring the visibility and appearance of the wall section.

This private effort highlights the broader challenges facing the area's historical heritage. While this specific section has been revitalized, previous large-scale restoration attempts faced setbacks, including a 200,000 euro grant from Fondazione Cariplo that was revoked in 2017 without the project being initiated.
