Alessia Scarpone to walk from Giulianova to Sirolo for rare disease awareness

Alessia Scarpone, president of the Amici di Alessia APS association, is launching a walking project titled ‘Il Cammino delle Sirene – Un passo dopo l’altro, insieme’ to raise awareness for myasthenia gravis and other neuromuscular diseases.

From September 13 to 20, Scarpone will walk along the Adriatic coast from Giulianova to Sirolo, covering approximately 15 to 20 kilometers per day. The journey will pass through several stages, including Martinsicuro, Cupra Marittima, Porto San Giorgio, Civitanova Marche, and Porto Recanati.

The initiative aims to highlight the challenges of living with rare diseases, the difficulties of maintaining autonomy, and the vital, often invisible role of caregivers. Scarpone will be accompanied by a support team consisting of her husband (a caregiver), a physiotherapist, an athletic trainer, and a logistics coordinator. The project also seeks to engage with local institutions and communities to discuss inclusion, accessibility, and the responsibilities of authorities toward those with disabilities.
