Alessio Pio Coppolino death linked to severe systemic infection, case moved to Vibo Valentia prosecutors
Alessio Pio Coppolino, a 15‑month‑old boy from Zungri, died on 22 July after being transferred to the Pugliese‑Ciaccio Hospital in Catanzaro. Autopsy results revealed a severe systemic septic infection involving the lungs, pleura, heart, pericardium, and central nervous system, with investigators describing the microbiology as polymicrobial and still under analysis.
The Catanzaro prosecutor’s office found no irregularities in the hospital’s care and transferred the judicial investigation to the prosecutor in Vibo Valentia. Health authorities have begun monitoring 38 children who attended the Family Baby School in Tropea, the private daycare the boy frequented, while epidemiological studies continue alongside the legal inquiry.
