Alex Alselo: From Syrian refugee to professional boxer in Germany
Alex Alselo, a 25-year-old professional boxer based in Karlsruhe, Germany, is rising through the super middleweight division after a life-altering journey from Syria.
Alselo fled the Syrian war as a teenager, traveling with his family in a truck via human traffickers to reach Germany. After arriving in 2014, he faced the challenges of adapting to a new language and culture. His professional boxing career began later than most, starting at age 18 after being discovered by the late boxing manager Jürgen Lutz.
Alselo, who has since obtained German citizenship, aims to use his platform to serve as a role model for youth and other refugees. In addition to his own training, he has obtained coaching certification to lead training groups for children and adolescents.
