Alex Chersia Grant nominated to Liberia's PPCC board

President Joseph Boakai has nominated Alex Chersia Grant to the Board of Commissioners of the Public Procurement and Concessions Commission (PPCC) in Liberia. The nomination seeks to fill vacancies left by the deaths of two previous commissioners.

PPCC Executive Director Bodger Scott Johnson has welcomed the nomination, stating that Grant would be a key partner in advancing public procurement reforms. Specifically, Johnson emphasized the importance of expanding the Electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) System to improve oversight, transparency, and competition in public contracting.

However, the nomination faces scrutiny regarding Grant’s past record. Critics have called for President Boakai to withdraw the nomination, citing unresolved questions concerning land agreements and academic credentials. Specifically, during his tenure as Grand Gedeh County superintendent, Grant signed a 30-year agreement for cocoa cultivation on land that local residents claimed was customary land, an action Grant later described as a “procedural error” due to a lack of community consultation. The nomination now awaits confirmation by the Liberian Senate.
