Alex Cora discusses dismissal from Boston Red Sox
Former Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora has shared his perspective on his dismissal from the team during the 2026 Major League Baseball season. Speaking on the ‘Baseball Isn’t Boring’ podcast, Cora attributed the decision to the team’s poor pitching performance during the month of April, which contributed to a 10-17 start to the campaign.
Cora noted that the atmosphere within the organization felt heavy and signaled impending changes. He recalled receiving a text from chief baseball officer Craig Breslow at a team hotel in Baltimore, which he interpreted as the definitive sign of his termination. He stated that the presence of the owner and CEO during executive meetings made the outcome feel inevitable.
Following his departure, Chad Tracy took over the managerial reins, initially in an interim capacity, before being permanently appointed. Despite the early-season struggles, the Red Sox eventually improved their pitching performance, finishing the regular season with the third-best team ERA in baseball at 3.54.
