Alex de Minaur overtakes Novak Djokovic in race for ATP Finals

Alex de Minaur has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Shanghai Masters, overtaking Novak Djokovic in the rankings for the season-ending ATP Finals in Turin. The Australian player, who recently withdrew from the Beijing tournament final against Djokovic due to groin injuries, has moved ahead of the Serbian tennis star in the race for the top eight spots.

Currently, the point difference between de Minaur and Djokovic is 40 points. The outcome of de Minaur’s upcoming quarterfinal match against Alexander Zverev will be critical; a victory and subsequent advancement to the semifinals could increase de Minaur’s lead to 200 points. Conversely, if Zverev wins, the gap will remain at 40 points, a margin Djokovic could potentially overcome before the end of the season.
