Alex de Minaur proposes new rules to accelerate tennis match pace

Australian tennis player Alex de Minaur has proposed two significant rule changes aimed at increasing the pace of play and reducing downtime during matches. Speaking in Shanghai, the world number eight suggested introducing a timer between the first and second serves to prevent players from taking excessive time between attempts.

Additionally, De Minaur proposed a more controversial rule: allowing only a single ball toss per serve. Under this rule, once a player tosses the ball, they would be required to strike it, regardless of the quality of the toss. He argued that if a player chooses not to hit the ball after a toss, it should be considered a fault. De Minaur believes these changes would make the game more dynamic, reduce repetitive routines, and place a higher premium on the precision of a player's initial service motion.
