Alex Deady sentenced to life for murder of Cork postman

Alex Deady has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of 44-year-old Barry Daly in Doneraile, Co Cork. The attack occurred in the early hours of 12 October 2025 outside Mr Daly’s home at Rockview Terrace.

Mr Daly, a father of five and a local postman, died from catastrophic head and facial injuries inflicted with a golf club. The assault followed a dispute at a GAA celebration involving Deady’s partner. Deady and two teenagers followed Mr Daly home to carry out the attack.

Ms Justice Siobhán Lankford described the murder as a tragedy that has “changed Doneraile forever.” In reviewing victim impact statements, the judge characterized Mr Daly as an “exceptional” person known for his kindness, particularly toward elderly residents during his work as a postman.

A 17-year-old co-accused was also found guilty of murder following a retrial, and a 16-year-old defendant pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
