Alex Domínguez proposes reform to investigate migrant women's disappearances
Alex Domínguez Domínguez, a federal deputy and state president of the PRI in Chihuahua, has introduced an initiative to reform the General Law on Forced Disappearance of Persons and Disappearance Committed by Private Individuals. The proposal specifically targets the protection and investigation of migrant women.
The reform aims to integrate a gender perspective and a human mobility approach into initial investigations. By doing so, authorities would be required to consider critical risk factors from the outset, including human trafficking, sexual violence, exploitation, and organized crime.
Additionally, the initiative mandates coordination between specialized prosecutors, search commissions, migratory authorities, security institutions, and consular authorities. This synergy is intended to optimize information exchange and reduce response times. The proposal also seeks to strengthen the rights of families, including those located abroad, and harmonize Mexican national law with Inter-American human rights standards.
