Alex Eala predicted to reach world No. 1 ahead of US Open

Former ATP world No. 4 Greg Rusedski has predicted that 21-year-old Filipino tennis player Alex Eala has the potential to reach the world No. 1 ranking. Rusedski highlighted Eala's exceptional mentality, court movement, and her ability to take the ball very early on returns as key competitive advantages.

Eala enters the US Open as the 17th seed following a breakout 2026 season. During this period, she achieved a career-high WTA ranking of No. 18, winning the WTA 500 title at the DC Open and a WTA 125 title in Birmingham. Her season record stands at 31-19, placing her within the top 15 of the WTA Race.

Her recent performance includes winning seven of her last ten matches against Top 10 opponents, including victories over Iga Swiatek, Elena Rybakina, and Jessica Pegula. Her best Grand Slam result to date is reaching the fourth round of Wimbledon.
