Alex Eala reaches career-high No. 18 WTA ranking

Filipino tennis player Alex Eala has reached a new career-high ranking of No. 18 in the WTA singles standings. Her ascent follows a successful North American hard-court season, which included winning the Mubadala DC Open and achieving deep runs at the Canadian and Cincinnati Opens.

Eala is currently in New York preparing for the 2026 US Open. She is expected to be a seeded player in the tournament, which is scheduled to run from August 23 through September 13 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Before the main draw begins, Eala is set to participate in the ‘Stars of the Open’ exhibition match against Iva Jovic at Arthur Ashe Stadium on August 27.

Earlier this year, Eala made history as the first Filipino to receive a singles seeding at a Grand Slam during Wimbledon, where she reached the fourth round.
