Alex Eala's service identified as key to WTA success

Tennis legend John McEnroe has commented on the professional trajectory of Filipino player Alex Eala, suggesting that her serve is the primary obstacle preventing her from reaching the top tier of the WTA.

Speaking on the ‘Off Court With Greg Rusedski’ podcast, McEnroe noted that while Eala possesses immense personality, competitiveness, and athleticism, she needs a more complete technical package to win Grand Slam titles. He specifically identified her service as an area requiring significant improvement to compete with elite players like Coco Gauff or Aryna Sabalenka.

Former US Open finalist Greg Rusedski offered a more optimistic perspective, defending Eala against the criticism. Rusedski argued that while there are technical aspects to address during the off-season, her service is not as weak as suggested. He highlighted her recent success in Washington, where she defeated several high-ranking opponents, as evidence of her potential and ability to compete at a high level.
