Alex Escobar recovers after surgery to remove thymic tumor

Journalist Alex Escobar is recovering following surgery to remove a tumor located in his thymus. The procedure took place on Thursday at Casa de Saúde São José in Rio de Janeiro.

The medical investigation began after Escobar experienced difficulties speaking during a live broadcast in June. Doctors identified myasthenia gravis, a rare autoimmune disease that affects the communication between nerves and muscles, as well as the thymic formation. The tumor appeared to be benign.

Escobar reported a positive post-operative evolution and expected to be discharged from the hospital shortly. He is expected to undergo a period of approximately two weeks of rest at home to continue his recovery and manage medication for his condition.
