Alex Escobar undergoes surgery to remove thymus tumor

Journalist and presenter Alex Escobar underwent a successful surgery in Rio de Janeiro to remove a benign tumor from his thymus. The procedure, performed at Casa de Saúde São José, follows a medical investigation triggered by a health episode during a live broadcast while covering the World Cup in the United States.

Following the surgery, Escobar was diagnosed with myasthenia gravis, an autoimmune disease that disrupts the communication between nerves and muscles, often resulting in muscle weakness and difficulties with speech and chewing. Doctors expect that removing the tumor will help control the symptoms of the condition.

Escobar is currently in recovery and has shared updates regarding his progress on social media. He remains on a scheduled break from his professional duties at Rede Globo while he focuses on medical follow-ups and medication adjustments.
