Alex Honnold: The professional climber known for free soloing vertical cliffs
Alex Honnold is a professional climber known for his extreme free solo climbs, including scaling 914-meter vertical cliffs without safety ropes. Born in Sacramento, California, Honnold began climbing artificial walls at age five, building a strong technical and physical foundation.
After being accepted into the civil engineering program at the University of California, Berkeley, Honnold eventually left his studies following the sudden death of his father. He transitioned to a nomadic lifestyle, living in a 2002 Ford Econoline van while traveling across the United States, from Utah to Yosemite Valley.
His professional breakthrough occurred in 2007 when, at age 22, he successfully completed a continuous climb of the legendary Astroman and The Rostrum routes in a single day without safety equipment. This feat established his reputation in the professional climbing world.
