Alex Karp acquires 15,000 hectares of Swedish forest land
Alex Karp, the CEO of Palantir, has acquired approximately 15,000 hectares of mountain plateau and forest land in the Berg municipality of Jämtland, Sweden. The purchase was made through the newly formed company Cladonia Skog AB, with the forestry corporation SCA acting as the seller.
The transaction, valued at roughly 240 million Swedish kronor (approximately 21 million euros), has caused local tension in the village of Storsjö Kapell. Residents and local hunting associations reportedly learned of the change in ownership only after receiving termination notices for their existing lease agreements.
Local concerns center on the identity of the buyer. While the acquisition is legally sound, the community has expressed apprehension regarding the influence a leader of a major software firm—which provides tools to military and security agencies—might wield over such a significant landholding.
