Alex Lanier wins France's first men's singles badminton World Championship title

Alex Lanier has become the first Frenchman to win the men's singles title at the BWF World Championships. In the final held in New Delhi, the 21-year-old world No. 10 defeated Japan's Kodai Naraoka with a score of 21-11, 21-11 in a 50-minute match.

Lanier's victory highlights a shifting landscape in men's singles badminton. Leading players, including Lanier and world No. 7 Victor Lai, suggest the sport has entered an “open era” where sustained dominance by a single player is increasingly difficult. This shift is attributed to a deeper pool of competitive talent, a higher volume of tournaments, and increased physical intensity in early rounds.
