Alex Leandro Bispo dos Santos released by São Paulo court
Alex Leandro Bispo dos Santos, an entrepreneur accused of feminicide, has been released from prison by the São Paulo judiciary. Bispo dos Santos was detained in December 2023 after security footage captured him assaulting his wife, Maria Katiane Gomes da Silva, shortly before she was found dead after falling from the 10th floor of their building in the Morumbi district.
The release follows a habeas corpus decision. While no longer detained, Bispo dos Santos must adhere to several judicial restrictions, including maintaining a minimum distance of 500 meters from witnesses, prohibiting contact with them, and reporting to the court every two months. He is also prohibited from leaving the jurisdiction for more than eight days.
In addition to the feminicide charges, Bispo dos Santos is identified by the state Public Prosecutor's Office as a member of the criminal organization Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC). He is also under investigation for the alleged diversion of São Paulo municipal funds to finance the production of ‘Dark Horse’, a film about Jair Bolsonaro. The legal proceedings regarding the death of Maria Katiane continue.
