Alex Lifeson jokes about firing Rush bandmates during Montreal show

During a performance in Montreal on September 4, Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson engaged in a humorous exchange with bandmates Geddy Lee and drummer Anika Nilles. While waiting for a technical pause before playing the song ‘Limelight,’ Lifeson joked that he was ‘the boss’ and jokingly ‘fired’ the rest of the band, claiming he would perform the show alone to make ‘hundreds of dollars.’

The band, which has experienced various hiatuses following the 2015 retirement of the late Neil Peart, appears to be performing with a renewed sense of lightness. Geddy Lee noted in a recent interview that while the band had always possessed a sense of humor, they were often too reserved to express it during their earlier years.
